May Day : Workers Should Be Fully Integrated into Governance Process –
Oyo ALGON Chair, Prince Abass Aleshinloye Solidarises, Felicitates With Workers.

Association of Local Governments of Nigeria, ALGON, Oyo state chapter has solidarised and felicitated with Nigerian workers and all members of the working class on the occasion of this year international labour day.

In his this year May Day solidarity message, Oyo ALGON Chairman, Prince Abass Aleshinloye, on behalf of the association, maintained that workers should be fully integrated into governance process.

“The Association of Local Government of Nigeria, ALGON, Oyo state solidarises with Nigerian workers and all members of the working class including farmers, drivers, market men and women who toil and sell their labour to make a marginal living globally”, Aleshinloye stated.

He further reiterated that, “As creators of wealth, workers are entitled to rewards of their sweat even before the sweat dries off for more productivity and efficiency. In this case, minimum wage must be a living age to sustain their bodies and souls, families and to enable them pay corresponding taxes which in turn stimulate the economy to a higher growth.

“Government should always incorporate workers’ unions into revenue generation, budgeting and expenditure process for more transparency and confidence building, we should not wait for a situation of economic downtown before workers are fully integrated into governance process in order to avoid incessant labour unrest as being noticed in many states and federal government.

“Equally as productive citizens on whose shoulders wealth creation and smooth operation of government rests, Nigerian workers should always put the nation first above any other interest. This calls for maximum efficiency in total quality delivery, discipline, transparency, patriotism and godliness because for who expect much, much is also expected from them.

“Seeing different labour unions in varied organization’s uniforms and banners of demands today as they marched and dancing with clenched fists of solidarity brought to memory the heroism, huge sacrifice, commitment and motivation of past heroes of the working class nationally and globally from when the May Day was first celebrated on May I, 1890 and before. . This is a great historical challenge for all workers to carry the banners of their past heroes forward peaceful and consistently.

“ALGON Oyo State celebrates with Nigerian workers especially local government employees in Oyo State and nationally.
Happy celebrations and solidarity, Aleshinloye concluded.
