NAMES: Three Oyo Lawyers, Who Died While Awaiting Confirmation As Judges, Substituted.

Three late nominees for position of judges in Oyo States – Fatima Badru, Wasiu Gbadegesin and Bolaji Agoro, have been replaced, OYOINSIGHT.COM reported.


Recall that the Muslim Community, in Oyo-State, had protested the delay in their appointment, alleging Seyi Makinde, governor of the state, of bias towards Muslims. Makinde has, in different fora, absolved himself of the allegation, promising to make amendment.

This newspaper also learnt that the late trio emerged first from the court, ministry and bar respectively. They died in a space of one year.

Though how they emerged and names forwarded to the National Judicial Council was yet to be known as at press time, the quartet of Olusola Adebisi Adetujoye, Folabimpe Beatrice Segun Olakojo, Professor Taiwo Elijah Adewale and Kareem Adeyimika Adedokun have been approved for inauguration. Only one of the four is a Muslim.


At its 95th meeting held on September of 15 and 16, 2021, the council considered the appointment of Hon. Justice Mashud Akintunde Akinfemi Abass as president, Customary Court of Appeal, Oyo state while it approved Ajadi Olubukola Omolayo also for Customary Court of Appeal.

A statement issued on Sunday by NJC Director of Information, Mr Soji Oye and released in Abuja, said that all the recommended candidates are expected to be sworn-in after approval by the President, Muhammadu Buhari, GCFR and their respective State Governors and confirmation by the respective State Houses of Assembly.
