NANS Tasks NJC to Address Alleged Forgery in Kebbi State’s Judiciary
I
n a significant move aimed at protecting judicial independence and upholding the rule of law, the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) issued a strong call during its recent pre-convention at the Federal University of Technology (FUTO) in Owerri, Imo State.
The resolution titled “Extraordinary Matters” on the agenda urges the National Judicial Council (NJC) to take immediate action in Kebbi State.
NANS, represented by its leadership, expressed concerns about various critical issues affecting the judiciary in Kebbi State, notably the allegation of forgery against the Acting Chief Judge of Kebbi State, which has raised questions about the integrity of the judicial system.
The student body also called on the NJC to address the matter of seniority among judges in Kebbi State’s Judiciary, warning that if left unresolved, it could disrupt the proper functioning of the judicial arm and compromise the delivery of justice.
Furthermore, NANS stressed the importance of adhering to the Constitution’s provisions, especially regarding the tenure of acting chief judges in Nigeria, with a specific focus on Kebbi State. This adherence is considered vital to maintaining the independence of the judicial arm, often referred to as the “last hope” of the common man.
NANS’s resolution underscores the organisation’s dedication to upholding justice, transparency, and accountability in Nigeria’s judicial system. It is expected that this call to action will resonate within legal circles and lead to a comprehensive investigation into the allegations in Kebbi State, ultimately enhancing the credibility of the judiciary and reinforcing its role as a cornerstone of democracy in Nigeria.
