REMARKS BY HON. (PRINCE) AKEEM ADEYEMI, MHR, AT THE OPENING CEREMONY OF THE E-LEARNING PROGRAM/DIGITAL CAPACITY BUILDING FOR YOUTH HELD ON TUESDAY, 18TH AUGUST, 2020 AT ELECTRONIC MEDIA CENTRE, FEDERAL COLLEGE OF EDUCATION (SPECIAL), OYO, OYO STATE

It gives me great pleasure and joy to welcome you all to the opening ceremony of this e-learning Programme/Digital Capacity Building Conference, through the Federal Ministry of Communications and Digital Economy, for the benefit of the youth in Afijio/Atiba/Oyo East and Oyo West Federal Constituency.

We recognize the role of youth as major drivers of Nigeria’s economy and as being pivotal to our future as a nation. It is for this reason that you, our young people, are at the core of our agenda. You do not only hold the key to Nigeria’s future, greatness and prosperity; your talents, skills and creativities are essential to ensuring Nigeria’s growth and competitiveness. The economic reality and dearth of opportunities, coupled with lack of viable skills, mean that the potentials of our youths, though available, are not being maximized.

We are also mindful of the precarious times we are in. This pandemic has revealed, more than ever, the importance of digital processes and the need for infrastructure to support same.
Whether or not we are willing to admit it, the outbreak of the COVID-19 Pandemic has necessitated digital transformation and alternative ways of achieving our objectives.

To this end, analysts have predicted increased dependency on technology via its various forms – digital marketing, virtual learning and work places, e-commerce amongst others. If anything is clear, it is that the way we do things must change.

To ensure that our youth are equipped and prepared for the new normal, we have facilitated this training. The scope of the programme will include digital marketing, leadership enhancement, networking, adapting to the new normal and leveraging on technology for effective e-commerce/e-marketing opportunities.

I urge you all to pay rapt attention to the information and knowledge that you will receive in the next few days, as it will, no doubt, be useful to you in whatever career paths and future endeavours you venture into.

In addition, to facilitate your learning and set you on the right path, we will be giving out laptop computers to each participant. Let me stress at this point that only those who record hundred percent attendance and participation will receive computers. Beyond this workshop, I implore you to make the most of this learning opportunity. I wish you a rewarding experience and success in your future endeavours.

Thank you for your attention and God bless you all.

Hon. (Prince) Akeem Adeniyi Adeyemi,
Chairman, House Committee on Communications “.
