Ona-Ara Resident Explains Why Akin Alabi Remains a Dominant Force in Oyo Politics

An Ona-Ara resident, Comr. Salahudeen Taiwo, has explained why Hon Akin Alabi continues to command attention and influence in the political landscape of Oyo State.
Taiwo noted that the lawmaker representing Egbeda/Ona-Ara Federal Constituency has increasingly become a force to be reckoned with in the state’s politics, adding that the growing agitation and anxiety from some established politicians is not unexpected.
According to him, the current political tension surrounding Akin Alabi reflects a gradual shift in influence within the political space.

“When new energy and credibility begin to resonate with the people, it naturally unsettles those who have long dominated the political terrain,” he said.

He also pointed out that many critics fail to acknowledge that Akin Alabi did not suddenly emerge in politics.
According to Taiwo, politics has long been part of the lawmaker’s background. His father, Chief Adediran Alabi, now late, was widely respected as a grassroots political figure across Egbeda, Lagelu, Ona-Ara, and other parts of the state during his active years.
He explained that this background laid the foundation for Akin Alabi’s understanding of grassroots engagement and community politics.
Describing the lawmaker as a core Omoluabi, Taiwo said Akin Alabi is widely known for his integrity, humility, and responsible leadership. He added that the lawmaker has consistently demonstrated a willingness to collaborate with individuals and groups genuinely committed to the progress of the people.
According to him, it is therefore not surprising that influential personalities from across Nigeria continue to warm up to him.
Speaking on the recent criticisms directed at the lawmaker, Taiwo said such reactions often emerge when political actors begin to feel threatened by the rising influence of another figure.
“In politics, when the fear of losing control begins to set in, the next strategy is often discrediting campaigns aimed at pulling the rising voice down,” he said.
He however noted that such tactics appear to have produced the opposite effect, as they have instead amplified conversations around Akin Alabi and further highlighted his relevance in the evolving political dynamics of Oyo State.
