Oyo 2023: PDP Must Stop Playing Bitter Politics – Group Warns, Condemns Attacks on APC Facilities, Aspirants’ Billboards.
Advocacy for Progressive Governance – Oyo State 2023(APG-OY ’23) has warned the ruling People’s Democratic Party(PDP) to stop playing politics of bitterness.
The stern warning of the group came on the heel of series of attacks on the party’s facilities and destructions of APC aspirants’ billboards across the state, especially, the attack on APC secretariat in Lagelu Local Government and destructions of the party’s front line Gubernatorial Hopeful, Barrister Akeem Agbaje’s billboards, by alleged thugs of PDP.
The group’s spokesperson, Mr Sola Aderinto, in a statement released and made available to the newsmen, yesterday, in Ibadan, described the attacks as destructive and condemnable. He maintained that it indicated the plans of some desperate politicians to reintroduce violence into the politics of the state, ahead of the 2023 general election.
“PDP must stop playing politics of bitterness. The violent attacks on our party and destructions of our people’s billboards are being carried out by some political desperados who felt uncomfortable about the efforts of the opposition party, APC to reclaim power in the state, come 2023.”He alleged.
Aderinto continued,”It’s crystalline clear that the merchants of violence of the ruling party who work under the supervision of their known chief thug are carrying out these undemocratic and violent attacks. Meanwhile, our, progressive party members and leaders are not discouraged by their reactionary approaches to issues and destructive disposition, and we can say it boldly that all attempts to run our party aground before the next general election would be lawfully and intellectually resisted.
The group appealed to Oyo APC to remain law abiding but vigilant and undaunted even in the face of the intimidation and harassments, as all measures within the armpit of law are being put in place, by APC stakeholders and leaders, in the state, to nib in bud the rising waves of the attacks.
The group also called on the relevant security operatives to begin a clampdown on all political thugs, allegedly, being employed by the ruling PDP for the main objective of, desperately, returning Engr Makinde to office for the second term in office, by all means, come 2023.
