Oyo APC Chieftain, Barr Agbaje Tasks Party on “Ideals of Progressivism”.
A Chieftain of the All Progressives Congress(APC), in Oyo State, Barrister Akeem Agbaje has tasked his party to return to the ideals of true progressivism.
Barr Agbaje made the call during a radio interview, during the weekend.”The APC in Oyo state is still smarting from the not too favourable outcome at the 2023 general elections. The party failed in its’ bid to unseat the incumbent governor, Engr Seyi Makinde. Many reasons have been adduced as the cause of the failure; contentious primaries and internal struggle for the soul of the party.
As the party seeks genuine reconciliation across board in a bid to reposition itself, Agbaje has suggested a path that could help the party on the road to recovery, redemption and victory.
Agbaje said,“We need to return to the ideals of progressive politics. The party should own the party not the candidate. You have a situation where different candidates were trying to take over the party. It is different when you have the governor as the leader of the party. Recent trends particularly in 2023 is that we had candidates trying to be leaders of the party.
He continued,”Candidates should be candidates while party leaders should be allowed to be in charge of the party. As it is now, there is no single individual who has the capacity to be the sole leader of the party. So, I suggest all inclusive collegiate leadership.
