Oyo APC: Group Fosters Peace, Unity Ahead of State Congress.
Oyo State Progressive Parliamentarians, the umbrella body for all progressive honourables from 1999 till date, has fostered peace and harmony, within the All Progressives Congress(APC) ahead of the October 16 forthcoming state congress.
The group recognized the mass defection to the party, from different political parties, in the state, as a strength. The parties which comprise People’s Democratic Party(PDP), African Democratic Congress(ADC), Zenith Labour Party(ZLP), among others.”Irrespective of our previous political inclinations, our present coming together has made us one indivisible Oyo APC. This is our strength and we must manage it well so it doesn’t become weakness”, they stated.
This is contained in a press release, issued today after the group emergency meeting, where all the local governments, state constituencies, federal constituencies and senatorial districts were all represented, today, in Ibadan.
In the release respectively signed by the Chairman and Secretary of the group, Hon. Bolomope Ibrahim and Hon. Alli Akinola Sikiru, and which was made available to the newsmen by the Public Relations Officer(PRO), Hon. John Olaleru, the group unanimously agreed that;
“Firstly, one of the major problems of the party is lack of the party discipline. We appeal to all aspirants to put party interests first. Indeed, we must not see this congress as a do or die affairs. What will be the gain of an aspirant that hijacks party structures at disadvantages of others or he has nothing to show for it at general election?.
“Secondly, for the benefits of the party faithful, especially, our aspirants; Be it state assembly aspirants, federal constituency aspirants, senatorial aspirants and gubernatorial aspirants, it is better to put ‘having a united and formidable party’ first before aspirations. Everybody must focus on the party. Indeed, we must collectively build the party together. After then, everything will naturally take shape and everybody will have fair sharing, in the long run.
“Thirdly, all the parties involved, must be ready to make sacrifice in the best interests of stability and progress. We must not disrupt the progress of the party because we feel neglected in some areas. We must be magnanimous, enough, to tolerate each other and be ready to make sacrifice, if truly we love our party and we mean well for it come 2023. If we’re ready to make sacrifice, we will be able to tolerate each other and bear it that no one is perfect.
“Furthermore, the offices must be zoned across the local government areas of the state. It’s important that there’s zoning. We mean proper zoning. So far, we have number of executives that can take good care of all the local governments, there must be zoning and at least, each local government must have an executive post. Above all, all the principal offices must be evenly shared among the three senatorial districts and with this, we are good to go come 2023.
“Conclusively, we strongly appeal to all the tendencies and bigwigs of our great Party, Oyo APC to bury their hatchets, in the best interests of the party. Also, on the issue of parallel congresses, it must be totally avoided by all means, in order to have harmonious house and formidable front ahead of 2023 election.
