Oyo APC Taunts Makinde for Re-Introducing School Governing Boards

Oyo APC Taunts Makinde for Re-Introducing School Governing Boards.

The All Progressives Congress (APC), Oyo State chapter has taunted Governor Seyi Makinde over the recent inauguration of School Governing Boards (SGBs).

This Newspaper, Africano Trumpeters recalled that the initiative was the brain child of the last administration under the leadership of late former Governor Abiola Ajimobi, but the Boards were dissolved immediately the present administration assumed office in 2019.

But the Gov. Makinde re-introduced the SGB’s for the 643 secondary schools in the state on Monday, saying it will help reinforce his administration’s achievements in the education sector.

During the inauguration of chairmen and members of the SGBs for the 643 state-owned secondary schools, Makinde declared that all the policies introduced by his government in the education have been yielding positive results.

However, Oyo APC in a statement by its caretaker Publicity Secretary, Dr. AbdulAzeez Olatunde, on Tuesday, said Makinde’s decision to cancel the initiative in the first place has robbed the state of 32 months of good governance.

“The question that readily comes to mind is why were the people in the School Governing Boards sent packing in the first instance?

“The answer is simple, petulance and pedestrian naivety on the part of Governor Seyi Makinde, who was cutting his ‘teeth in governance.’ This has robbed Oyo State of 32 months of good governance before he realised his mistakes with the dissolution of the School Governing Boards,”the party said.

Oyo APC also lambasted the governor over the security challenges being experienced in some parts of the state, saying, “today, Oyo State is seen outside as the den of criminals.”

“Oyo State today is renowned to have exported miscreants and people of questionable characters to Kogi 2019 and Ondo 2020 gubernatorial elections.

“The latest in the news was the arrest of Oyo State ‘contingent of the underworld’ numbering over 100 that were apprehended in the wee hours of Wednesday, 26th January, 2022, when going to Ekiti State for mercenary assignment.

“The question agitating the minds of peace-loving residents of the Pacesetter State today is what is the essence and need for the CCTV cameras strategically positioned in 121 flash points in Ibadan, that commissioned in December 2018 by the immediate past government of Sen. Abiola Ajimobi, when Governor Seyi Makinde’s administration is ‘ hands in gloves’ with the notorious criminals which the CCTV cameras were meant to track down for arrest?” the statement added.

Oyo APC noted that the current administration in the state has failed to fulfill most of its campaign promises, adding that as a progressive party, it “abjures hypocrisy.”
