Oyo APC Youth Leader, Prince John Aremu Alleges Makinde of Hypocrisy over Campaign Venue Obstruction at Bodija

In a strong protest, Prince John Aremu, the Youth Leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oyo State, has criticised Governor Seyi Makinde for his recent decision to allegedly close the Bodija Market. This action came just as the APC was set to flag-off its campaign at the same location.
Aremu expressed his disappointment, calling the closure an undemocratic move and a clear display of hypocrisy. He pointed out that the Bodija Market had previously been used without obstruction for campaign activities by the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), of which Makinde is a member.
“This is hypocrisy of the highest order,” Aremu stated. “The selective application of state authority and intimidation have no place in a free society. Our democracy thrives on fairness and equal opportunity for all political parties.”

Aremu emphasised that the APC remains undeterred by these tactics, reaffirming the party’s commitment to its campaign and its mission to provide good representation for the people of Ibadan North Federal Constituency by electing the party’s standardbearer in the forthcoming August 16 byelection. He urged people to recognise the importance of protecting democratic values against political suppression.

“We will not be silenced by intimidation,” he added, affirming the party’s resolve to continue its message of change and hold the campaign today at the same venue, by all lawful means necessary.
The situation has sparked discussions among political observers, who are monitoring the implications of such actions on the upcoming elections in Oyo State.
