Oyo Central 2023: ‘Bimbo Kolade Approaches Court As Hearing Begins on Suit.

The Oyo Central Senatorial District primary election of the All Progressives Congress (APC) which was conducted on 28th of May 2022 has come and gone but with undesirable outcomes and marred with irregularities, ‘Bimbo Kolade Directorate of Political and Public Communication stated.

“This development has made the leading Oyo Central Senatorial hopeful on the platform of the All Progressives Congress, Honourable ‘Bimbo Kolade, a core progressive man to seek redress at the law court”, the directorate revealed.

“The suit which was filed on the 10th of June 2022 before Justice Uche-Nma Agomoh of the Federal High Court in Ibadan, commenced hearing today.

“It could be recalled that the former commissioner who had served in 4 various ministries in the last administration of Abiola Ajimobi led regime had earlier approached the Election Appeal Committee with evidences and he demanded that the primaries be cancelled.

After meeting the appeal committee, the release issued by the “Directorate of Political and Public Communication” of the former Commissioner for Local Government in the state, Hon. Kolade,”Ire De”, goes thus,“After the ‘show of shame’ called election conducted on 28th of May 2022 which was marred with lots of irregularities.

It also reads further,“Appearing before the committee with his appeal letter and evidence, Hon. Bimbo Kolade who is a law abiding citizen narrated all that transpired during the inconclusive primaries.
Part of the irregularities discovered were as follows:

  • The exercise was agreed by all aspirants to commence by 9am but this started by an aspirant and his people by 7am.
  • There were fake delegates’ list that was used during the exercise. This left many delegates without performing their civic right.
  • The state excos that were present had a free day walking up and down busy working for a particular aspirant.
  • Ona-Ara delegates were not allowed in to vote.
  • No result was announced.
It is clear that the umpires were busy doing the bid of a particular aspirant, therefore, we had no choice than to approach appeal committee to hear our matter.”

The statement reads,”Unfortunately, it was reliably gathered that nothing came out of the appeal submitted to the party leadership.

In appearance in court today, were the legal counsels of the 1st defendant (Yunus Akintunde); Barr. Kareem Gbademosi SAN, 2nd/3rd defendants (APC as a Party and National Chairman of APC); Barr. Otono.

Also present at the hearing is Barr. Akerele representing the 5th defendant which is the electoral body INEC who is also a party in the suit.

In what looked like a drama, the Oyo state chapter legal adviser was in court fully dressed as a lawyer that he is, but refused to enter appearance for the 4th defendant, the APC Oyo state. It was later said he claimed not to have been served notice of hearing, although the party has been well served the originating surmon.
The judge adjourned the case for further hearing to 21st day of July 2022.

It is worthy of note that the suit must come to a close all within 180 days of initial filling.
