Oyo Central: Congratulation to Senator (Dr) Yunus Akintunde | By Afeez Bello ‘Mabinuori’
Oyo Central: Congratulation to the Indispensable Balancer, Senator, Dr Yunus Akintunde | By Afeez Bello ‘Mabinuori’.
Sir, I congratulate you on your recent appointments as Chairman of the Senate Committee on Environment and Vice Chairman of the Senate Committee on Police Matters. I’m also using this medium to congratulate other Senators of the Federal Republic of Nigeria on their victories in the just concluded general election and their respective appointments as committee chairmen. Furthermore, congratulations to the people of Oyo Central for giving you this opportunity to serve them in one of the highest capacities in the country. Since this will have far-reaching positive consequences for them.
Being a balancer requires having some leadership traits and good qualities. It is not just a good personality. It requires the ability to think critically and not be biassed. Balancing equations prompts people to hold them in high regard. It promotes fairness and justice. It also enhances progress, stability, and sustainability and prompts people to believe in one’s integrity.
So far, So great; your effective representation of the people of Oyo Central Senatorial District in the Red Chamber is topnotch. You have distinguished yourself as a Senator who believes in all-inclusive delivery in the sense that all three geopolitical zones in your senatorial district are not left out of your unique and gigantic representation.
Oyo Central is the only senatorial district that comprises three different geopolitical zones, such as Ibadan, Oyo, and Ogbomosho. Prior to and a few months before your emergence as Senator, you facilitated countless projects for towns, communities, and cities not only in Oyo Central but across Oyo State.
One of your latest achievements that really caught my attention was the programme that your Health Team organised in the Ogbomoso zone (Ogo-Oluwa and Surulere LG). It was a marvel since new ideas were initiated in the programme, such as body mass index, Free diabetes screening, Hypertension Screening, consultation, and counselling. Meanwhile, Consultation and counselling were very key in that programme because our people tend not to go for consultation in various health centres because of the fear of being diagnosed with any diseases or infections on the one hand and poverty on the other. Moreso, your contribution to the financing of free eye treatment and surgery across the state under the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Centre from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, which has brought relief to over 7,000 people, 400 of whom underwent surgical operations, is highly commendable.
As an attentive listener, you have listened to the voice of the people in your senatorial district and understand the challenges they are encountering. For instance, your recent visitation to our highly revered King, the Olubadan of Ibadanland, His Imperial Majesty, Oba Mahud Lekan Balogun, when you went to deliver a report and sought his support to revitalise the uncompleted Oyo-Ogbomoso-Ilorin road project and the Ibadan-Ife-Ilesa road project This shows that you are very concerned with the lives of the people, since the first function of any responsible government is the protection of their lives and properties.
Your vision and humility have been a source of encouragement to the reasonable youths who are willing to participate in the affairs of the state now or in the near future. I would also use this medium to humbly urge you to ensure that the agency(ies) under the committee you chair and serve as a member empower our teeming youths for the economic growth and development of this country in order to reduce unemployment drastically and enhance prosperity in the country. Thanks for doing great justice to your unique representation.
