Oyo Central Senator, Dr Akintunde Rolls Out Legislative Achievements, Unveils ‘New Projects for Constituents’

The federal lawmaker representing Oyo Central Senatorial District in the Senate, Dr Yunus Akintunde has unveiled his legislative achievements and significant projects completed during his first year in office.
He made the disclosure on Saturday while featuring on a popular socio-political programme,‘Political Circuit ‘ on Fresh 105.9 FM, Ibadan, which was anchored Mayor Isaac Brown.
Senator Akintunde outlined his notable legislative actions, including, the ‘Electricity Tariff Motion’, by which he successfully raised a motion to halt the increase in electricity tariffs, and this earned him the commendation as Legislator of the Week at the National Assembly, the week the bill was presented.
The Resident Doctors’ Nationwide Strike, occured afterwards and Sen. Akintunde led Advocacy for the suspension of the Resident Doctors’ strike.
Sen. Akintunde introduced key bills such as the Special College of Education Oyo Bill, the reorganization of the Hajj Commission, the establishment of the Police Pension Commission, and the upgrade of the Federal School of Survey to a Federal University of Geomatics.
The Senator highlighted several major infrastructure projects, such as Ayegun Oleyo Road Project and ongoing developments in Oluyole Local Government Area(LGA). Roads in Akinyele/Lagelu Federal Constituency, Facilitation of Aroro Makinde Road and Alabata Road.
Regarding educational infrastructure, Akintunde hinted on the renovation, and construction of schools across the 11 LGAs and the establishment of four ICT centers.
A key announcement during the program was the “Light Up Oyo Central” project, which aims to install a minimum of 20 solar lights in each ward. “An additional 5 solar lights each will be provided for health centers, police posts, traditional rulers, Okada junctions, and markets, Akintunde stated.
Senator Akintunde introduced the ‘OMIBOLA project’, which will deliver a solar-powered borehole to each of the 118 wards in Oyo Central, with an additional two boreholes for special needs, totaling 120 solar-powered boreholes.
During the program, Senator Akintunde paid tribute to his late colleague, Hon. Akinremi Jagaban, offering heartfelt condolences to his family and political group. He prayed for their comfort during the period of mourning.
Akintunde congratulated His Imperial Majesty, Oba Owolabi Olakulehin on his recent coronation as the 43rd Olubadan of Ibadan land.
Chief Niyi Akintola SAN, also a guest on the program, expressed his admiration for Senator Akintunde’s accomplishments. He praised his uniqueness in dedication and commitment to his people and stated,”I have always maintained that Oyo State has a truly Distinguished Senator in Dr. Yunus Adisa Abiodun Akintunde standing out among equals.”
Looking ahead, Senator Akintunde reiterated his campaign slogan, “Let’s Do More,” promising the delivery of several other significant projects; the “Model Market,” to be situated in Ibadan, Oyo, and Ogbomosho, more roads and schools rehabilitation, and improved health care initiatives. He emphasized that these initiatives are designed to benefit the communities rather than politicians.
