Oyo Government and The Politics of Deceit: A Case Study of National Youth Service Corp(NYSC) Members

Oyo Government and The Politics of Deceit: A Case Study of National Youth Service Corp(NYSC) Members.

Oyo state under the Abiola Ajimobi led Government, took pride in setting a good pace, in fulfillment of his electoral promises. However, in the recent time, under Governor Seyi Makinde led Government, Oyo state trends on the populism; (pleasing the populace with deceitful tactics instead of facing governance), to curry a cheap applause.

The perpetual anomaly this PDP Government is known for, took another shade, with members of the National Youth Service Corps(NYSC), posted to Oyo State for their one year service to father land. You will recall, the false hope that the Governor Seyi Makinde gave to the Corp Members, at one of the orientation service program, with the announcement of the monthly allowance (Alawee as Corps fondly called) for serving corp in the state, from #5,000 to #15,000.

Well meaning members of the public were awed to the Gov. Seyi Makinde media optics, instead of statement of fact, as to the economic reality, has adjudged his promise dead on arrival, judging by the slim financial grips and huge debt on the said Government in less than four (4) years, in a careful analysis of the statutory budget and corresponding revenue generation of the state.

It is indeed evident, that the PDP populism politics, thus far; has brought nothing but detriment to the state coffers and government deliverables. From this foregoing, the masses must stand up, to demanding for good governance, that thrive on truth, sincerity of purpose and transparency.

According to a civil servant, who wouldn’t want her name mentioned, made a cry, that the Seyi Makinde led government is playing hard ball and intellectual politricks, with every strands of sensitive facets in the state.

Public needs to be inundated with the current realities, that the state government has drastically reduced the required and stipulated numbers of corp members, to be deployed to the state.

For instance, Oyo state is in dire need of about 1500 corps members for effectiveness and they will be renumerated with the sum of #5,000 monthly allowance.

Now; here is the twist: The Oyo state government has mandated that about 1/3 of the required sum which is 500 corps members be taken and be paid 15,000 each. How callous and ridiculous?

This disastrous effort as orchestrated by the current administration has gained media hype with the intention of positive publicity to the populace of the entire state at the detriment of a sizeable numbers of others being denied their right of national service and effectiveness in the administration of the state in all sectors particularly the educational sector.

However, the effectiveness of work done is telling on the entire civil service of the state which ought to have helping hands from the young and agile corp members posted into the state.

The workforce now have to overwork themselves to make up for the 1000 corps members rejected by the state through a deceitful channel.

In another development, the state government has directed that Oyo PPA links be blocked and directives has been issued that no corp member be accepted to serve in state secretariat.

Let us hope, for the respite to come, at the effluxion of this regime.
