A socio-political group in the All Progressives Congress(APC), Oyo State Chapter, known as “Adekanmbi Grassroot Supporters(AGS)” has reiterated that the former Commissioner for Finance in the state, Hon. Bimbo Adekanmbi is the best man for the legislative business of Oyo South Senatorial District come 2023.

“APC and good people of Oyo South need a man of courage who is bold enough to liberate the district from shackles and manacles of conservative forces manning and retarding the progress of the district. Who is that man?. The man is ‘Bimbo Adekanmbi”, the group stated.
“APC and good people of Oyo South need a man of gallantry who is up to the task and who can stand the chance to coast home victory in Oyo South Senatorial District Race come 2023 and also deliver dividends of democracy to the constituents. Who is that man?. The man is ‘Bimbo Adekanmbi”, they affirmed.
“APC and good people of Oyo South need a man of depth who is a bridge-builder and who has a third ear to listen to unheard voices and act responsively. Who is that man?. The man is ‘Bimbo Adekanmbi”, they advocated.
About Hon. Abimbola Adekanmbi (Abim):
Adekanmi was born on 5th April, decades ago. He attended Orita-Mefa Baptist Nursery and Primary School Ibadan, Federal Government College in Okigwe (then Imo State) and Obafemi Awolowo University in Ile Ife, where he graduated in 1998 with a B.Sc Accounting degree. His NYSC service to the Country was at Maiduguri in Borno State.
Abimbola’s formal career began in 1999 at the then Global Investment Bank. He was later to work at Merchant Banking Corporation (MBC) and at Liberty Bank.
The Banks recognized Abimbola’s brilliance early and exposed him to the biggest and most complex transactions to include the Syndicated Financing for the Lagos State Independent Power Project (MBC), Syndicated Financing for the Abuja Stadium Project MBC). He was pioneer Coordinator of the then new entrant MTN Account and Bank Outlets (Liberty Bank) among others .
Adekanmbi proceeded to the UK in 2001 and his years outside the Country saw him gaining a reputation as a sound Business Engineer and Administrator with a ‘Razor Sharp intellect’. He ran a Consultancy that was in constant demand to provide Consulting and Business solutions across Fortune 500 Companies, the Public Sector, the Academic and Professional community, where it was well known that “if it’s broken down and you cannot fix it, call Abim!”
He consulted for several organisations across various sectors, few of which are GlaxoSmithKline Group, AstraZeneca Pharmaceuticals, Birmingham City Council, Middlesbrough Borough Council, Kent Police, Caterpillar Logistics, British Gas Group, Verizon Business among others. He also Consulted with IBM, Accenture, Xanxa and others.
Abimbola sat on the MBA Board of Studies of the Liverpool John Moores University MBA Class 2009 and was elected to serve on the Corporate Sector Network Panel of the Association of Certified Chartered Accountants (ACCA) in 2010.
As part of continuous personal development, he acquired a B.Sc in Applied Accounting (Oxford Brookes University, UK), MBA in Strategy and Finance (Liverpool John Moores University, UK). He qualified as a Chartered Account (ACCA) and subsequently a Fellow (FCCA).
Abimbola was appointed by Senator Abiola Ajimobi, the then Executive Governor of Oyo State as the Deputy Chief of Staff to His Excellency in June 2011. He also served in numerous roles of responsibility.
He remained a member of the State Executive Council throughout Governor Ajimobi’s administration and was a member of several Committees tasked with the implementation of Government policy and programmes. He incubated, implemented, managed and monitored Legacy Projects. His Role integrated with and impacted multiple MDAs and involved regular meetings with Heads of MDAs, the private sector and other development partners like the World Bank.
In 2014, Abimbola was appointed as the Acting Chairman, Oyo State Board of Internal Revenue. His major achievement was the midwifery of the 2015 Revenue Law for the full autonomy of the Board.
Abimbola also served in several other key Roles, selected ones of which include:
• Member, Oyo State Social Economic Management Team (OSSEMAT)
• Chairman, Oyo State Community and Social Development Agency (CSDA)
• Chairman, State Implementation Committee (SIC), Millennium Development Goals (MDG)
• Project Oversight, Ibadan Urban Flood Management Project (a World Bank assisted Programme).
He served as the Oyo State Commissioner for Finance, Budget and Planning until the end of the Administration’s tenure in May 2019. As Finance Commissioner, he was committed to running a Best-in-class Ministry of Finance, with prudent management of the especially scarce resources of Government. In addition to the core Ministry of Finance, Abimbola oversaw other key Units, to include:
• Office of the Accountant General
• State Planning Commission
• Board of Internal Revenue (Supervisory Role)
• Pensions Board
• Bureau of Statistics
Outside of Government, Abimbola’s dynamism continues and he is active in the Real Estate sector, with new Technology and Start-ups, the Securities and Fixed Income Markets e.t.c. He also continues to offer Financial Advisory and Consultancy Services to persons and Organisations. In May 2020, Abimbola was invited to be a pioneer member of the Digital Economy Policy Commission (DEPC) of the National Economy Summit Group (NESG) .
