Oyo South 2027: Chief Wasiu Ajimobi Joins Senatorial Race, Promises Quality Representation

Oloye Wasiu Ajimobi, the Ikolaba Olubadan of Ibadan Land and a successful business tycoon, has officially joined the 2027 Oyo South senatorial contest.

During a press conference held on Monday in Ibadan, the capital of Oyo State, Ajimobi articulated his motivations for seeking the senatorial seat. He emphasised his desire to secure a significant bargaining position for Oyo South, positioning the district for economic advancements and youth development while prioritising security at local and federal levels.

The chairman of the investment committee of the governing council of the Kaduna Polytechnic, Kaduna State, Ajimobi underscored his seasoned political experience and influential connections as vital assets in attracting crucial infrastructure projects aimed at alleviating unemployment. He expressed his confidence in his ability to lobby fellow legislators for the much-anticipated special status that Oyo South deserves, elevating the district’s development to national prominence.

“With my decades of experience navigating the political and business landscapes, I am well-equipped to drive meaningful change for Oyo South from day one,” Ajimobi stated. “I am passionate about the advancement of Ibadan and Ibarapa and the welfare of our people, which positions me as the most viable aspirant to be presented by our great party, the APC.”

The master’s degree holder in peace and conflict studies, Ajimobi, outlined his transformative agenda, which includes “Special Status for Oyo South – Recognising the pivotal role of Oyo as a pacesetter state, I aim to secure dedicated attention and collaboration with the federal government. Infrastructural Development – I’m committed to fostering developmental strides that the district deserves. Unemployment Solutions: Addressing the youth unemployment crisis will involve creating short-term job opportunities and revamping educational programmes. Indeed, we need practical training to prepare a skilled workforce, targeting industries from technology to construction.

On educational reform, the 1997 Oyo State House of Assembly Honourable-elect on the platform of the defunct United Nigeria Congress Party (UNCP), Ajimobi, proposed investing in local educational institutions to offer short-term certification programmes, ensuring that the youth are equipped for available jobs. On security initiatives, he acknowledged the pressing security challenges facing Oyo State and pledged to join hands with government functionaries at all levels to tackle these issues proactively from the outset of his tenure.

Ajimobi reiterated his commitment to championing initiatives that uplift the lives of the constituents in Oyo South and the broader context of Oyo State and Nigeria. “If elected, I will establish sustainable programmes focused on aiding the poor, the unemployed, the elderly, and women, aiming to generate employment and reduce poverty across the district. So help me God,” he submitted.
