Oyo State : Councillors Forum Visits Soji Akanbi , Appreciates His Efforts on ALGON Struggles , Reiterates LG Autonomy .
Yesterday, the Oyo State Councillors Forum Executives led by its Chairman, Hon. Adesoji Adesokan has paid a courtesy visit to the Okanlomo of Ibadan Land, Senator Rilwan Adesoji Akanbi, who represented Oyo South Senatorial District in the 8th Assembly.
The executives who represented different Local Government Areas, zones and wards in Oyo state appreciated the efforts of Senator Akanbi in supporting the Oyo State Chapter of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON) to pursue their freely and lawfully given mandate at the Supreme Court.
They restated the fact that Local Government autonomy is a national issue that Senator Akanbi always stood for in and out of the Red Chambers, with the understanding that – Local Governments should bring the government closer to the people and, agitation for its fruition in every state of the country should be supported, and nothing should be done to silence or pause its advocacy until it is achieved.
The forum implored Akanbi to consolidate his efforts in pursuing their mandate legitimately, and to help them in involving other prominent stakeholders to realize this democratic feat .
They further commended him for the excellent representation of Oyo South as a lawmaker as well as his various laudable projects being facilitated even out of office.
“We applaud your various empowerment programmes under Rilwan Adesoji Akanbi Foundation (RAAF) towards bettering the lives of people”, they stated .
Also, they lauded his sincere efforts towards unifying and strengthening the party, All Progressives Congress(APC) without any form of partisanship .
While responding, Senator Akanbi sincerely thanked them for the visitation and for recognizing his efforts at unifying the progressives. He added that everyone has to be involved, behave and act as being preached. He made them realized that each one of them is the symbol of the party, and, as a grassroots person, a bottom-up approach and not otherwise is necessary to ensure victory, fairness and successful consolidation of the progressives. “Everyone matters, embrace everyone and reach out without bigotry” he said.
He further urged them not to promote any aspiration of any sort for now. ” Except such person, aspirant, is an adversary of the party, there should be no aspiration for now until the party is united, we all should be particular about coalescing the party. Refrain from promoting any aspirant for now and please pass the message to other members’ he reiterated .
Senator Akanbi pledged his continued support for them, urged them to embark more on prayers. ” Whatever effort of man is , we all dependent on God to achieve it”, Sen. Adesoji Akanbi emphasized .
