Oyo State Government vs Oyo ALGON : Oyo ALGON Rejects Makinde’s Pay Off Deal, Commends Him As They Offer Government of Inclusion
Following the rejection of the pay off deal by the Local Government, Local Council Development Area Chairpersons, Vice Chairpersons and Councilors under the aegis of the Association of Local Government of Nigeria, Oyo State Chapter, africanotrumpeters.com has learnt about the new proposal of Oyo ALGON re-tabled before Gov. Makinde.
africanotrumpeters.com recalled that out of court settlement was proposed by Engr Seyi Makinde led Oyo State Government and accepted by Oyo ALGON to amicably resolve the lingering crisis rocking local government administration in Oyo- State.
According to the latest development, we learnt that the politically attacked Oyo ALGON, rather than accepting the financial pay off deal, wants the Gov. Seyi Makinde-led government to appoint two additional supervisory councilors and one Liason officer who will work together with the elected chairpersons, vice chairpersons and councilors in all the LGA’s an LCDA’s.
This demand, if accepted by the parties involved, will allow the democratically elected chairmen and other officials to resume their respective offices and complete their tenure.
The document reads ; “In the overall interest of our dear state and to achieve a robust and participatory governance at the grass roots , ALGON opined that the government may appoint additional two Supervisory Councilors, and One Liason Officer per LGA and LCDA, to the existing and already inaugurated appointed ones, to make government of all inclusive. Oyo ALGON believes this is ideal!”.
The elected council officials while explaining reason for rejection of the pay off deal said it is against the constitution of the country to collect such money.
Oyo ALGON considers it a disservice to the people of their respective Local Government Areas, Local Council Development Areas and the entire good people of Oyo State to collect financial compensation as proposed in lieu of their freely given mandate and constitutionally guaranteed tenure.
ALGON is equally of the view that accepting financial compensation by way of calculated salary and severance allowance would amount to aiding the breach of the constitution and may also lead to violation of anti-corruption law by collecting salaries and allowances for futuristic job tenure yet to be lived out.
Oyo ALGON therefore resolved that the financial pay off proposed in the offers is unacceptable to us hence we reiterate our resolve to complete our tenure as constitutionally guaranteed” it reads.
The association also appreciated Governor, Engineer Seyi Makinde for recognizing the elected chairpersons, vice chairpersons and councilors by offering to pay them salaries and allowances.
“ALGON expressed appreciation to His Excellency, for recognizing and acknowledging our mandate as the democratically elected chairmen, vice chairmen and councilors of the 33 local government councils and 35 LCDA’s in Oyo state by offering to pay us salaries and allowances of due although this was coming from the 16 days after the initiative was moved on the 15th of February, 2020” it concludes .
