OYO: You’re Misleading Mr Governor, Stop Hindering Our Payments – Ex-LG Bosses Tell Oyewo.
Leadership of the former members of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria(ALGON),in Oyo-State, has told Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice of the state, Barrister Oyelowo Oyewo(SAN), to stop hindering their payments, as judgement creditors.
Recall a High Court of the Federal Capital Territory(FCT), Abuja has issued an order attaching funds standing to the credit of Oyo State Government and its agencies in four banks. The funds, according to court filings, are to settle the outstanding balance of N3,374,889,425.60 from the judgment debt owed the former local government chairmen, vice chairmen and councillors sacked on May 29, 2019 before the end of their tenure by Governor Seyi Makinde.
Oyewo reacted to the garnishee order of the court on 4 bank accounts of the state and insisted on installment payment.”Cash swap policy disrupted payment of sacked LG bosses. So, the finances were disrupted and we could not pay. Meanwhile, Oyo State is amenable to instalmental payment.
Bashorun Bosun Ajuwon, former chairman of ALGON in the state, talked tough while reacting to Oyewo’s position. He pitied the Ogbomoso-born senior advocate and stated that as a law scholar, he should know better.”Indeed, we feel so sorry for Oyo State Attorney General, Barr Oyelowo Oyewo(SAN). As law teacher, we expect him to know better and look beyond partisanship. Why is he always playing politics with the payments of our judgement debts. Court has given order, please, pay us our entitlements, in full.
In his reactions to Barr Oyewo’s position, Vice Chairman, Association of Local Government Vice Chairmen(ALGON), in the state, and representative of the forum in the negotiation committee, Chief Olawale Ademola (AGBA-DEMO) described Oyewo as perpetual stumbling block to the council officials’ payments. “Barr Oyewo is a constant stumbling block on our way. He always hinders our payments. He always misleads Mr Governor, even, when Engr Seyi Makinde was ready to offset our payments, in full then, Mr Oyewo blocked it.
“At a negotiation committee meeting, and in the presence of Lawyer Kalejaye, I told him to his face that he is the only problem we have. On this matter, Governor Makinde is not that bad, but Barr Oyewo is the main enemy of progress. He should stop standing as hurdle to our payment. All we are saying, honour garnishee order and pay us our money in full”, Chief Agba-Demo added.
