Photos: Former Interior Minister, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola Attends Sheikh Banni Afonta’s 8-day Fidau Prayer

Yesterday, the Nelson Mandela Freedom Park in Osogbo witnessed a gathering of dignitaries as former Governor of Osun State and ex-Minister of Interior, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, attended the eighth-day fidau prayer for the late Islamic scholar, Sheikh Abdulwahab Banni Afonta.

Describing Sheikh Afonta as a virtuous man, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola shared fond memories of their acquaintance dating back to 2004. “Sheikh Afonta was a good man. I met him in 2004, and from that time until he passed away, I did not witness any negative qualities in him,” said Aregbesola.

“He radiated happiness, joy, peace, and all the good things in life. I pray that Almighty Allah forgives his shortcomings,  Amin.”he added, highlighting the positive impact Sheikh Afonta had on those who knew him.

The eighth-day fidau prayer, held at the Nelson Mandela Freedom Park, provided a platform for friends, family, and well-wishers to pay their respects and offer prayers for the departed soul. As attendees reflected on the life of Sheikh Afonta, the atmosphere was filled with a sense of solemnity and reverence.

Sheik Banni Afonta, known for his contributions to Islamic scholarship, left behind a legacy of exemplary leadership and positive influence, as echoed by those who gathered to remember him on this occasion.
