While delivering the lecture,”Basic Principles and Good Governance”, the Head, Department of Theatre Arts, University of Ibadan,  Professor Bashir Gbadebo Akande Lasisi, highlighted the quality of a good leader and what makes good governance. A leader should be of good character and integrity. A bad person knows himself but waits for who will say it. Yorubas ensure they make a person with integrity their leader. A leader should communicate very well and he should be articulate, receive feedback from his people, carry them along and observe  their reactions to his idea. He should always outspoken and be a good listener. A good leader must be a learner, since learning is essential for him. He should learn from history and his predecessors, make them (predecessors) his role model. For instance, people choose Chief Obafemi Awolowo and Mahatma Ghandi as their role models. A leader should be able to encourage and motivate his people in order to make the association great. He should show his people the way in order to achieve success.

He continued, there are some challenges in being a leader such as problem of right decision. A leader will take tough decisions for the interest of the association. A leader can make the right decision at the wrong time. It is essential for a leader to take the right decision at the right time since decision making is very delicate. For instance, the issue of cashless policy in the country which the federal government claimed that it has eradicate kidnapping and reduce corruption in the country. But this policy have some effects on the people negatively. There are some basic principles guiding good governance such as clear process of selection; responsiveness; efficiency and effectiveness – leader should fulfil his or her promise; openess and transparent; Innovation – a leader should be able to bring up new things. Changing of power is necessary in order to being up new ideas that will transform the organization; fund and financial management – some people can’t use their money the way they use association money due to the fact that they lack leadership qualities. All the contestants should realize that power belong to the people”. he submitted.
