On December 3rd, 2021, I received a call from Prof. Adeolu Akande. He was instructive, “Omo Iya Kunmi, when is OYSMA coming up? Can you write a proposal to NCC seeking for corporate support for the event?”
This was the least expected thing as at that time. Fine, we were already planning for the event but it was not in top gear. Not only did his call and suggestion catch us unaware, I never expected Prof would be that thoughtful.
So we wrote. Despite Prof’s busy schedule, he would reach out to me to update me about the stage of the proposal. The NCC staff were also calling to brief me on the situation of things.
A few days to the 4th Edition of OYSMA, he reached out to me and told me, “Omo Iya Kunmi, your proposal has been approved. We will be supporting your event with so and so amount.” I was so elated.
At some point, I guess due to his busy activities during the APC Convention, the payment got stuck. I was not really bothered because I have Prof’s words that we were going to be settled. He was so annoyed to know that it got stuck. Again, he followed it up appealing to us to remain calm.
A couple of days ago, we received a huge surprise from NCC. Our account was credited with a very handsome amount. I couldn’t contain my excitement and I have not stopped praying for Prof. Adeolu Akande.
From the first edition of the Oyo Social Media and Distinguished Personalities’ Awards, never have we enjoyed such huge corporate support. Our joy knows no bounds.
Prof., you have been a wonderful mentor, pillar of support and benefactor. I can not count the number of times you have gladly supported our causes at Omo Iya Kunmi Foundation. Through your office, we have also benefited from one of the workshops organized by NCC where we got a laptop and cash.
What more can I say other than to say thank you for your benevolence. May you never know a better yesterday and may Almighty grant your desires. May your dreams come true.
