The former Chairman of the Nigerian Communications Commission(NCC) ,Professor Adeolu Akande has endowed a 10 year scholarship scheme spread over 10 years for 100 laureates of Ajorosun Club of Ibadanland.
Professor Akande announced the endowment at the annual anniversary of Ajorosun club, a foremost socio-cultural club in Ibadanland where he served as Chairman of the occasion.
Professor Akande would be given N100,000 to each of the 10 scholarship laurattes of the club drawn each year for the next years. The laureates are annually drawn from the nation’s universities through a competittive examination.
Granting scholarships is one of the highlights of the annual celebrations of the Ajorosun club. The club was established in 1980 to foster good relationship between members and contribute to the socio-economic development of Ibadanland.
Speaking on the sidelines of the event, Professor Akande explained that he identified with the lofty scholarship programme of the Ajorosun club. He explained that youths in the country face enormous challenges in their educational and entrepreneurship pursuits and that any club that commits itself to amelioration these problems deserves the collaboration of well meaning citizens.
Akande described Ajorosun club as one of the foremost socio-cultural groups in Ibadanland and Oyo State,whose contributions to the development of Ibadanland are enormous.
