RAN Tasks President Buhari to Break Administration’s Jinx on Electoral Bill • FG Can Meet ASUU’s Demands – Group Says.

Redemption Ambassadors of Nigeria(RAN) has tasked President Muhammad Buhari to break the jinx of his administration on the ‘Electoral Bill”. The group also maintained that the Academic Staff Union of University, ASUU’s demands can be met by the Federal Government of Nigeria, under the watch of President Buhari.

This is contained in press release issued by its Spokesperson, Bishop Amakiri and made available to the newsmen.

The release reads;”On five occasions under his administration, President Muhammadu Buhari has vetoed the electoral act amendment bill, calling into question his commitment electoral reform.

While the electoral bill awaits his assent on the sixth occasion, we wish to urge President Buhari to rise above primitive politics, parochialism, sentiment and immediately sign the electoral act amendment bill into law.

At this juncture, we are calling on the Attorney General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami, to put public interest above self and not to write any advisory that will obstruct the signing of the bill.

The people of Nigeria will not forgive Mr Malami if he comes up with a legal opinion that will misadvise the President into vetoing the bill for a record sixth time.

Mr President should be worried that many Nigerians are already giving up on his administration and concluding that he is afraid of credible and transparent elections.

The President must reckon with history and do well to end the deadlock on the electoral bill by breaking the jinx on this sixth occasion.

We wish to remind the President to be mindful of his promise to Nigerians on national television that he will sign the electoral bill if the mode of party primary election can be democratised.

Since the National Assembly has complied with the President’s request by returning the indirect primary clause into the electoral bill, including the consensus option, President Buhari must abide by his own promise.

Meanwhile, we wish to appeal to the Buhari administration to urgently meet the demands of the Academic Staff Union of Universities in the interest of the Nigerian Students and the country at large.

We believe that the union’s demands on the revitalisation of public universities, earned academic allowances, University Transparency Accountability Solution (UTAS) promotion arrears, renegotiation of 2009 ASUU-FGN agreement, and inconsistencies in Integrated Payroll and Personnel information system (IPPIS) payments are tenable.

We wish to draw the attention of the Buhari administration to the prevailing economic reality that the outstanding benefits and money to be paid to our striking lecturers have been eroded by inflation.
