REVEALED: Where Senator Ogba, Others Got It Wrong over NIS, CLTC DG’s Appointments

REVEALED: Where Senator Ogba, Others Got It Wrong over NIS, CLTC DG’s Appointments.

A credible source in the Presidency has revealed where Senator Ogba got it wrong by rejecting or trying to meddle in the appointment of the new Director General(DG) of the Citizenship and Leadership Training Centre(CLTC), Mr Soji Eniade.

The source stated as follows;”Appointment of NIS and CLTC DGs -Where the Senator Got It Wrong.

  • A clear Over-reach
The appointment of the DG of the CLTC is the sole powers of President Muhammadu Buhari which he has exercised accordingly. It is therefore an overreach on the part Senator Ogba to reject or try to meddle in the appointment of the new DG of the Citizenship and Leadership Training Centre (CLTC), Mr Soji Eniade by claiming he won’t recognise the appointment forgetting that the appointment doesn’t require the concurrence of the Senate.
This is a matter settled in law.

In the appointment of the DG CLTC, only the President’s approval is required, therefore the objection of Sen. Ogba and some members of the Committeee to the appointment is an overreach, and not within their purview. Castigating the Minister also reeks of some anger and animosity in a matter that the Minister enjoys the right to recommend a candidate.

Equally, the complaint by the the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Youth and Sports that the Minister of Youth and Sports Development, Sunday Dare removed former Director-General of the National Institute for Sports (NIS), Dr John Dadi-Mamud have been found to be false.

Investigations reveal that the erstwhile NIS DG actually passed on after a brief illness in January 2021, after which the Ministry followed extant rules and laid down procedures to appoint a replacement.

Potential candidates were reviewed, and Prof. Morounkola, formerly of the University of Ibadan (UI) was shortlisted, and recommended to President Muhammadu Buhari for approval. The President approved his appointment and the new DG assumed office in September, 2021.

It’s therefore a beggar’s belief that Senator Ogba could stand logic on its head by claiming during a budget defence session that the Minister removed the former DG whereas facts state otherwise.
Many Senators and lawmakers could not be exactly understand what is going on here. According to them, the person appointed is a Nigerian. And that should be sufficient. Also, this is a Presidential appointment not subject to clearance from the Senate. ‘Why the overt interest in this particular one. The Senator should please amber because similar appointments not requiring senate clearance have been and are been made- the Lawmakers queried'”.
