Rural Electrification : Hon Bunvic Lights Up Iregba Community, Others After 300 Years.

It was a landmark achievement for the people of Iregba community, on Tuesday, as the ancient community witnessed the supply of electricity for the first time, in history. The chant of joy and happy feeling rented the air as both young and old people of the community were caught everywhere showering encomia on Honourable Segun Odebunmi “Bunvic” who facilitated the power project for the community.

Odebunmi who currently represents Ogo Oluwa/Surulere federal Constituency at the Green Chamber, in Abuja, has earlier assured the community that they would soon be connected to the national power grid. An act which assured banishment of darkness forever, from the land. He has since fulfilled this huge promise last Tuesday.

The project which began in 2020 was, initially, due for completion in 2021 until there was a major need to increase the size of the power transformer to capture the precise power need of the community. This was originally disapproved by the Ibadan Distribution Electric Company IBDEC until Bunvic intervened again.

Expressing his happiness at the successful completion of the project, Bunvic reiterated the importance of electricity. He noted that,”Electricity has become part of modern life and one cannot think of a world without it. It aids comfortable living and provides a solid basis for development of local communities. Once a community has access to electricity, it can also have access to safe potable water, better health conditions, food security as well as lighting and information. So universal access to electricity is not only critical for improving living standards but also indispensable for eradicating poverty and achieving sustainable development and it is for these reasons we are connecting all communities under our Constituency to the national power grid. While this is completed, some others are still ongoing”, he enthused.

Bunvic however acknowledged that it took a complementary efforts from all relevant government departments to achieve this feat.

Oba Mustapha Olawusi Ajibola, Aregba of Iregba said, “I am aware that the electricity has been connected. It is a good development and we will forever be grateful to the government and the facilitator”,Hon Segun Dokun Odebunmi.

Another resident Mutairu Olawusi noted that,”The electricity supply to iregba marks another dawn in the city because people were happy, even, those doubting Thomases celebrate the breakthrough which was facilitated by Hon Odebunmi. It has been a long dream but God used Hon Odebunmi to achieve it.
