Senator Akintunde Condoles Families of Ibadan Tragic Accident Victims.
Senator Yunus Akintunde has expressed his heartfelt condolences to the families of those who lost their lives in the tragic multiple motor accident that occurred at Agbowo junction on the Ojoo axis along the Lagos Ibadan expressway.
In a statement released to the Media by Kunle Olatunji, the Special Assistant on Media and Publicity to Senator Yunus Akintunde, the accident which claimed 16 lives and left other 17 people with varying degrees of injury was quite devastating and sorrowful, when such an unfortunate incidence could have been averted if simple caution, careful vehicular maintenance were observed and the condition of that portion of the road was in proper state.
“I commiserate with the families of affected victims whose lives were cut short as a result of the unfortunate accident, while sincerely praying for a quick recovery process for the victims with varying degrees of injury at the moment”.
“It is more worrisome that the accident was attributed to vehicular technical brake failure and the parlous state of the portion of the Lagos Ibadan expressway road where construction work has been unduly prolonged for whatever reasons not yet verified”.
“The attention of the Federal Ministry of Works and all relevant stakeholders must be drawn to ensure the need to expedite action and complete the ongoing construction work of the remaining portion of the Lagos Ibadan expressway without further delay”.
Akintunde urged road users especially drivers to be more committed to proper and regular maintenance of their vehicles while urging relevant vehicular management and maintenance agencies to be more expedient in their safety and routine checks, ensuring that certified vehicles are plying our roads at all times.
Senator Akintunde is the Chairman of the Senate House Committee on Environment at the National Assembly.
