SUMMIT: When youths are empowered, party becomes stronger, more united, relevant to people – Says Oyo APC Youth Leader, Prince John Aremu

The Oyo State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has called for greater unity and strategic planning among its members, stressing that these are crucial for electoral success.

The message came during the party’s Youth Summit on Wednesday at the Ibadan Civic Centre, Agodi.

The summit, themed “Oyo State APC Today and Tomorrow”, brought together party leaders, youth stakeholders, and grassroots mobilisers from across the state. Organised by the APC Youth Wing, the event aimed to address internal challenges and reposition the party ahead of upcoming elections.

In his keynote address, Senator Tokunbo Afikuyomi urged young party members to rise above factional interests, embrace dialogue, and foster reconciliation within the APC. He warned that internal divisions could weaken the party’s chances if left unchecked, adding that the youths’ ability to organise and mobilise at the grassroots would determine the party’s future in Oyo State.

Hon. John Oyetunji Aremu, Oyo State APC Youth Leader, described the summit as more than just a meeting, calling it a purposeful platform for reflection and renewed commitment.

“The youths are the strength of today and the custodians of tomorrow. No party can grow beyond the space it creates for its youths to contribute, innovate, and lead,” he said.

He added, “We charge our great party to continue giving youths genuine avenues to showcase their talents and leadership abilities. When youths are empowered, the party becomes stronger, more united, and more relevant to the people.”

The summit also urged party leaders and elected officials to maintain consistent engagement with members, warning that neglect after elections weakens the party. Speakers emphasised that leadership should be rooted in service, integrity, and trust, rather than ambition, and that religion, zones, or sentiments must not divide the party.
