Tinubu’s SSA on Student Engagement, Hon Sunday Asefon Announces President’s Initiative to Tackle Social Vices in Tertiary Institutions

President Tinubu has created a special committee on campaign against social vices in tertiary institutions.

The Senior Special Assistant (SSA) to the President on Student Engagement, Hon. Sunday Asefon, disclosed this on Sunday in Abuja.

This, he said, was a decisive step to address the growing concern about social vices plaguing tertiary institutions.

According to him, drug abuse, cultism, cybercrime, sexual harassment, and academic dishonesty, among others, are some of the social vices that hinder the academic performance and personal development of students.

He added that these vices did not only hinder academic performance but also threatened the overall safety and well-being of students, thereby casting a shadow over the vibrant environment of tertiary institutions.

The members of the newly formed special committee for the eradication of social vices in tertiary institutions include:

Major General Suleiman Kazaure (retd): Former Director General, National Youth Service Corps; Deputy Vice Chancellor, Nigeria Army University Biu.

Maxwell Okoye – Secretary

Prof. Jerry Ugokwe – Professor of Legislative Studies

Rt. Hon. Chibudom Nwuche – Former Deputy Speaker, Federal House of Representatives

Bala Ngilari – Former Governor of Adamawa State

Dr. Ramat Tijjani – Former Minister of State of the Federal Capital Territory

Archbishop Peter Ogunmuyiwa – Archbishop of the African Church Abuja

Dr. Abubakar Rimi Jnr

Bishop Sunday Onuoha

Ambassador Timothy Nwachukwu

Ismail Lawanson

Tayyiba Abdulrazak

Representatives of security agencies are also part of the committee.
