Tribute: Father Goes to “Father”, Good Night Dad !! By Oluwaseun Adegbola.

“A writer without a word. In this current state, it is hard thinking through the fingers. I lost a good man. He is my father. He is irreplaceable. He left a vacuum beyond the capacity of mortal men. God is enough. If I find yesterday again, I will thank him for everything. He led a life of genuine parental sacrifice. He prioritized family needs above self desire.

Growing up under his careful watch, there was less of wealth and luxury but this was neatly eclipsed by the overwhelming presence of love and affection. Baba Henry was a communal man who desired the success of all. He was a breed without greed. He trained us to conquer all fears, live in peace with all men and to show absolute belief in God and self. He also taught us the evil in pessimism and its attendant disregard to human capacity. He advised us to fight ignorance as much as we can because it is the night of the mind. For this, he invested heavily in our education and economy. He also taught us the difference between surprises and disappointment. He advised us that it is better to expect less from people and be surprised if they give more than to expect more from people and be disappointed if they give less. Thank you for the memories. I will keep the lessons.

My dad gallantly navigated Life Sea. He dared the most valiant things. Now he has paid the price and ended an era. Today, I commenced a journey in retrospect in search of our common memories, events of past times, impressions and records. It will be an assignment of a lifetime for as long as I am here. I will need the adventure to feed my gratitude to him which will be eternal. I will not bury it with him. At this current time, I have not come to mourn my father; I have only come to bury him. “The good that men do, lives after them” .

Good night dear Dad.

Your son,
Triple Tee.”
