The All Progressives Congress, Oyo State Chapter, under the chairmanship of Chief Akin-Oke, has commiserated with all Ibadan descendants, at home and in diasporas, over the demise of His Imperial Majesty, Oba Saliu Akanmu Adetunji, Ajeogunguniso-I, the Olubadan of Ibadanland, who joined his ancestors early yesterday, Sunday at University College Hospital, UCH, Ibadan.

PRESS RELEASE:ADIEU AND GOODNIGHT OBA SALIU ADETUNJI, 41ST OLUBADAN OF IBADANLAND

Oba Saliu Akanmu ADETUNJI, OGUNGUNNUSO 1,was born to the family of Pa Raji Olayiwola Adetunji and Mrs Suwebatu Amope Adetunji of ALUSEKERE Compound, Popoyemoja, Ibadan on the 26th of August 1928.

Oba Saliu Akanmu ADETUNJI was the first of the 17 Children of the family.

 Oba Saliu Akanmu ADETUNJI started OMO AJE record label in 1957,through which he MARKET Musicians like DAUDA AKANMU alias EPO AKARA, TATALO ALAMU, JIMOH ANIKURA and legions of other high profile Musicians which OMO AJE RECORD most record SALES is WASIU AYINDE, alias KWAM 1,whose Breakout Album was TALAZO '84.

 Between 1984 & 1991,Wasiu Ayinde waxed  not less than 20 SELL OUT ALBUMS.

 Meanwhile, Oba Saliu Akanmu ADETUNJI became the MOGAJI of ALUSEKERE Compound of Popoyemoja in 1976,at the age of 48 years.


After Climbing the hierarchial  OLUBADAN Ascension ladder  for 40 years, fate beckon on Oba Saliu Akanmu ADETUNJI on 4th March 2016,when he was CROWNED 41ST OLUBADAN OF IBADANLAND after the demise of Oba Odulana Odugade 1 by His Excellency, Sen Ishiaq Abiola Adeyemi Ajimobi, who presented Ọba Saliu Akanmu ADETUNJI with his Staff of Office at a very Impressive ceremony at MAPO HILL, Ibadan. 

  By January 2nd 2022,when Oba Saliu Akanmu ADETUNJI, OGUNGUNNISO 1 breath his last at UCH Ibadan, He had reigned for 5 years 272 days.

On behalf of the Caretaker Chairman of APC Oyo State, Chief Akin Oke, the entire State Executives and all the APC members in Oyo State, we commiserate with the family of Ọba Saliu Akanmu ADETUNJI, all Ibadan indigenes within and diaspora.

We pray Almighty Allah to forgive the departed MONARCH and grant him Aljanna Fir-daous, Aaamin.
