CONDOLENCE: Veteran Journalist, Alh Bolaji Kareem Pays Tribute to Ex Oyo NUJ Vice Chair, Comrade Dupe Adewoye.

I got the sad news of the death of Comrade Dupe Adewoye who died in August and had been buried in Ila Orangun without pomp and pegantry. A veteran Journalist, great trade unionist,. Dupe  Adewoye, served as Chairman Nigeria Union of Journalists NUJ Sketch press limited and later became Vice Chairman Oyo State Council ( present Oyo and Osun State) when I was the Secretary in the 80s.

He was always in the forefront of our trade union negotiations and a pride to the state Nigeria Labour Congress NLC, as our representative. We were so impressed that I did not hesitate in recommending him to the then national secretary of NUJ, for Journalism and leftist training in the Eastern world where he excelled among participants from all over the world.

A crack reporter and good  newspaper sub editor, late Dupe was a pride to the profession.

Unknown to both of us, few days to his death, ailing Dupe came to me at the Press centre with ideas on future of Journalism and how he wished to public books on Journalism. Despite the fact that he needed rehabilitation, he was unbending. We promised to see again but I never knew that was his last visit. All efforts to reach out to him failed until I got the contact of his daughter who broke the sad news. May God grant him eternal rest. O ma se o.
