Who Will Stop Governor Makinde from Dancing to This Mystical Talking Drum? – ‘Ilu Esin’ | Sola Abegunde

In Yoruba Land, there is a mystical talking drum which no one ever prays to dance to its rhythm.

We call it the drum of shame. ( Ilu esin).

It is an invisible drum which no one has ever seen, yet, we believe it exists.

It is a drum, beaten by the enemy in the spiritual realm and once the spirit of the one for whom it is being beaten began to dance to the rhythm in the spiritual realm, such a hapless individual will begin to engage in acts that brings shame and dishonour.

These days, I have been wondering why no one has told Governor Makinde that he really needs to examine himself.

The Governor of Oyo state really needs to be attended to.

It does appear like the Governor has begun to dance to the mystical talking drum.

In fact, the tempo of the drum and the dance steps of the Governor are moving with unbelievable speed.

Unfortunately, the one beating the drum is no enemy from somewhere.

The Governor himself is  his own enemy who is beating the mystical talking drum and is also dancing to the shameful rhythm!

How do you now deliver someone from himself?

One of the greatest disservice anyone can do to himself is for him not to know what is beneath him and what he is not up to.

I do not think Governor Seyi Makinde knows his boundaries around both.

The numerous battles the Governor of Oyo state has invited on himself are taking tolls on his psyche.

He has kept pretending like all is well but nothing is well.

Only a fool will believe that anything is well with the Governor.

He has crossed the red line in his unnecessary and unwarranted battle with Tinubu.

He has become an outcast amongst the G-5 Governors.

His attempt to take control of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP has ended in failure and disaster.

Party primaries will hold next year.

The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC has said that it would not recognize the two factions fighting for the soul of the PDP.

For me, that is a win for the Wike faction.

It is Governor Seyi Makinde who needs the structures of the PDP for his future plans.

As I write this piece, the name of the PDP gubernatorial candidate for Ekiti state has been omitted by INEC.

This development will definitely affect Governor Seyi Makinde because those who are following him, still thinking that they could contest on the platform of the PDP would have no choice than to abandon him.

I heard in the news that a gubernatorial aspirant under the PDP just defected to the ADC this morning in Oyo state.

Who would blame him. The PDP is finished and no one who is serious about contesting an election in 2027 would stay within such a system.

The year 2026, God spare our lives, will be challenging for Governor Makinde.

I can see that he has been trying to attract sympathy from the public.

He won’t get it.

He who comes to equity must come with clean hands.

When Governor Makinde started talking about 2027 and how it’s going to be between the APC and Nigerians, I laughed.

Only a fool will believe that Governor Makinde is different from those he is trying to castigate.

Infact, he is worse.

His recent verbal war against Tinubu, Wike and Fayose has exposed him.

I watched the interview of former Governor Wike and his response to a question by one of the panel of interviewers.

Babajide Kolade Otitoju asked Wike if Governor Makinde is not entitled to nominate a Minister for Tinubu, because, in Kolade’s opinion, Governor Seyi Makinde assisted Tinubu to win in Oyo to the extent that the PDP Senatorial and House of Representatives candidates were sacrificed.

Wike answered by saying that such a claim is baseless.

He pointed to the example of Rivers  state where they voted for Tinubu and yet, PDP Senators and House of Representatives candidates won.

I agree with former Governor Nyesom Wike and I am happy that the truth is being revealed.

Governor Makinde did nothing to support Tinubu in 2023, rather, it was Tinubu who assisted Makinde to get a second term as Governor of Oyo state.

I recollect that the G-5 organized a rally at Mapo in Ibadan before the 2023 Presidential election.

We all expected that the choice of Tinubu would be announced at that rally but the PDP supporters who were at the venue became agitated and they were shouting the name of Atiku.

The rally ended with the G-5 not being able to name Tinubu as their adopted Presidential candidate.

So, where and how did Governor Makinde worked for Tinubu to be president?

He campaigned rigorously all over the 33 Local Governments, asking electorates to vote for the PDP.

Where did he mention Tinubu?

I challenge anyone who has a video or audio of Governor Makinde campaigning for Tinubu to make such public.

He was always saying that he would vote for equity, justice and fairness.

Is that the name of Tinubu or that of his political party?

For all I care, for the 2023 Presidential election, Governor Makinde played safe.

He campaigned for his party and was mum about Tinubu, knowing fully well, that Tinubu will win in Oyo.

To their credits, Wike, Ikpeazu and the former Governor of Enugu state publicly adopted Tinubu while Ortom endorsed Peter Obi.

So, where did Governor Makinde get the audacity  to insist on being given a Ministerial slot?

Honestly, I don’t blame him.

He was overrated by the president to the extent that he was offered the APC structures in Oyo.

I have said this before and I would repeat it for emphasis sake, those who recommended Governor Seyi Makinde to President Tinubu actually overrated him and also overlooked Governor Makinde’s anticidents.

By his anticidents, Governor Makinde would always betray trust.

The list is endless.

What could have attracted anyone to such a personality?

Thank God, he has betrayed everyone who assisted him in 2023, including the president.

When Governor Makinde said that president Tinubu asked him to reorganize the APC in Oyo state, I was shocked.

God is indeed interested in the affairs of Oyo APC.

What could have happened if Makinde had agreed to the proposal by the president?

Only God knows the extent of damage he would  have done to the APC.

Perhaps, he would have attempted to wrestle the control of the APC with Tinubu.

Governor  Makinde’s refusal of the president’s proposal, however absurd that proposal may appear, is one reason to believe that the Governor has begun to dance to the mystical talking drum.

That offer would have provided him the opportunity to, perhaps install a successor and protect him from possible prosecution after office.

Like I said in the beginning, Governor Seyi Makinde is his own enemy.

Betrayal of trust is not a virtue.

Ego and stubbornness are also not positive virtues for a Leader.

I listened to the interview of an aide to the former Vice president, Atiku Abubakar, I think Fabiyi is his name.

He said he was present when the former Speaker of the House of Representatives and two terms Governor of Sokoto  state,  Aminu Tambuwa called Governor Makinde in 2023 to appeal to him to see reasons why he should support Atiku.

He said Governor Makinde boasted that they were going to take control of the PDP in the future.

Now, he has taken control of the PDP, what has become of it?

Yes, Governor Makinde has been undone by his character traits: betrayal, stubbornness and ego, but he received help from the gluttons and sycophants around him.

Yorubas would always say that when a King begins to exhibit bad behavior, you need to examine his Chiefs and  advisers.

Up till today, Governor Makinde is blessed with an army of nauseating self appointed defenders who would clap for him even if he rubbed feaces on his head.

To this set of irritants, Makinde will always be right.

When Fayose published the memo from the office of the Accountant general of the Federation to substantiate his allegations that Governor Makinde actually collected the sum of 50 billion Naira as intervention funding for the Bodija explosion, they were the ones who first rose in arms, calling Fayose all manner of names.

Even now that the Governor actually came out to confirm that he got 30 billion Naira, they still think they have a point just because 30 billion Naira is not 50 billion Naira.

Some of them kept shouting, ‘ Fayose has no evidence to back up his claim ‘.

‘What he published is just a request!”

A request? By who? To who?

How can a Governor do well if he has these kind of minds around him?

What Fayose published is beyond a ‘ request ‘ and it is obvious on the face of the document.

If he had published the letter of request by the Oyo state Government to the appropriate Ministry, I will accept it as a request.

Ordinarily, such a document would be on the Oyo state Government letter head.

The document he published established the fact that a request was made to the president asking for the sum of 50 billion Naira by Governor Seyi Makinde.

It also established the fact that funds were disbursed to some states even though, the schedule for payment was not fully published.

Thankfully, as a result of that document, Governor Makinde was smoked out and he was forced to admit that he did requested for 50 billion  Naira, president Tinubu approved verbatim but, due to certain alleged constraints, he was only able to access 30 billion Naira.

From the above scenario and contrary to the earlier  denials by the Governor, president Tinubu actually approved the sum of 50 billion Naira and according to him, he got 30 billion Naira and he has kept the information secret until Fayose exposed him.

Governor Makinde has not also been able to satisfactorily explain how the 30 billion Naira was spent.

I saw a very annoying post on Facebook yesterday.

One funny fellow was trying to eulogize the Chairman of the committee that handled the disbursement of relief materials to the victims of the Bodija explosion.

After reading the funny post, I thought we need to report the Governor and the committee to appropriate authorities.

2026 will be very challenging for Governor Makinde.

It is either he stoops low and accept Wike’s conditions or he forgets the PDP.

I do not think he would do that.

His ego and army of sycophants won’t let him.

The only option left would be for him to consider joining another political party.

Would he join the APC or the ADC?

Honestly, I wouldn’t expect him to consider both options.

I think he has overstayed his welcome with the president.

I also do not think he should be comfortable with joining with Atiku whom he has called several unprintable names in the past in the ADC.

I do not underrate the height of Governor Makinde’s frustrations and I’m sure, desperation is setting in.

Desperation will lead to anxieties and more mistakes would be made.

His ranks will continue to be deflated on a daily basis.

In Government, it won’t be business as usual.

There would be betrayals from both politicians and the civil servants.

Classified and secret official documents and information would begin to leak out.

It is the lot of an outgoing Governor and Governor Makinde would not be different.

I have been thinking about what would become of those who fled from the APC to embrace Governor Makinde in the PDP.

To them, they were fleeing from a ship destined for wreckage.

Now, they are in a burning house.

I remember  the old man who crossed to the other side and was calling on others to follow suit. ( Je nmu o fona).

Now, the Bridge is burnt.

Will they now swim over to the place they left behind when they thought disaster was imminent?

My advice for them is to stay and sink with the Governor.

After all, they collected money in dollars according to ‘ Baba Oloye’.

Tonight, people will make resolutions for the new year.

Does Governor Makinde believe in such things?

If he does, what would his resolutions be for the year 2026?

Will it not be an appropriate time for the Governor to reflect on his sojourn in politics?

The appropriate time to look at how he has gotten all he has today as a politician?

By May 29, 2027, his tenure will effectively expire.

The euphoria of office together with the paraphernalia of the office would be gone.

Assuming he meets with people like Hon. Mulikat Adeola, Hon. Muraina Ajibola, Senator Hosea Agboola, Fayose and others, what would he be telling them?

Assuming he meets his erstwhile Deputy, Rauf Olaniyan, what would he be telling him?

Would he be saying, ‘ Egbon, I’m sorry, it’s the work of the Devil’ or what?

Or, will he maintain his excessive stubbornness, ( agidi talaka) and pretend as if nothing happened?

After he leaves office and his successor begins to treats him the way he treated his immediate predecessor, would he be happy?

When he assumed office in 2019 and he started shouting, ‘ Ajimobi left huge debts ‘ all over the place, has he started thinking about how his successor would expose him concerning the huge debts he left behind?

Honestly, I do not know how Governor Makinde would be proud of himself and the manner he governed Oyo state for eight years as Governor.

Those who are yet to know the extent of the damages he has inflicted on the state would see him clearly after May 29, 2027.

The ugly secrets around his running of the 33 Local Governments, the filth around his administration of Government GRAs and Estates, the unfortunate sales of Local Government assetts, the fraud around the award of contracts for the Light Up Oyo, Bus terminals, and the controversial approval of funds for various projects recently.

Oh! Governor Makinde has more questions than answers and he must seriously be anxious now.

When you found yourself in such a situation, you don’t take silly risks.

As we approach the new year, who will deliver the Governor of Oyo state from himself?

Those around him should be ashamed of his dancing steps to the mystical talking drum.

Sola Abegunde.
