World Disability Day 2023: Alli Egbesola Harps Global Call for Inclusive Sustainable Development

In the spirit of solidarity, and call for global unity and inclusivity, a renowned pro-people thinker and veteran special educator, Comrade Alli Egbesola, has urged nations, businesses, and individuals to join forces in achieving Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) specifically tailored for persons with disabilities.

On World Disability Day 2023, the high ranking public servant, Egbesola emphasised the indispensable role of over 1 billion people with disabilities in realizing the universal objectives of ending poverty, protecting the planet, and ensuring peace and prosperity for all.

According to the former student union leader, Egbesola,”The core of this movement lies in advocating for empowerment through accessibility, spanning physical, technological, and attitudinal dimensions.

Egbesola stressed the importance of accessible infrastructure, inclusive policies, education, employment opportunities, and healthcare systems as essential components of a society that truly values the diverse capabilities and contributions of every individual.

Breaking down barriers, both visible and invisible, Egbesola maintained that,”It is imperative for achieving these goals. Attitudinal barriers rooted in misconceptions and prejudices must be dismantled to foster a culture of acceptance and understanding. The call to action requires a collaborative approach, urging governments, businesses, civil society, and individuals to unite in forging pathways that enable the full participation and leadership of persons with disabilities.

Egbesola asserted that,”By harnessing the collective potential and talents of all members of society, not only do we honour principles of equity and justice, but we also unlock innovative solutions and untapped reservoirs of creativity. The mission goes beyond mere recognition; it demands celebration of the rights, aspirations, and contributions of persons with disabilities, creating a legacy that transcends generations.

As the rallying cry echoes – “United in action to rescue and achieve the Sustainable Development Goals for, with, and by persons with disabilities” – Egbesola called upon the global community to view it as a call to arms, a guiding beacon toward a future where every individual, regardless of ability, stands as an equal architect of our shared destiny.
