World Teachers’ Day: Former Interior Minister, Ogbeni Aregbesola Hails Educators for Nation – Building Efforts

In commemoration of this year’s World Teachers’ Day, former Governor of the State of Osun, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, has expressed his commendation for educators in the state and aross Nigeria.

Ogbeni Rauf, who previously served as the Minister of Interior, underscored the pivotal role that teachers play in shaping the destiny of nations. “I extend my heartfelt congratulations to all teachers in Osun State, Southwest Nigeria, and across the globe as we celebrate World Teachers’ Day once again. This is a day dedicated to honouring educators for their indispensable contributions to nation-building.

The influential statesman, Ogbeni Aregbesola, continued by emphasising the significance of pedagogues in guiding the younger generation. “It is widely acknowledged that children represent our future, and statistics reveal that a significant portion of our population comprises youths and children. These young minds are highly impressionable. If we envision them as the future builders of our nation, then it is the duty of teachers to prepare them for this vital role. The destiny of our nation rests firmly in the hands of the educators who will shape this promising generation.

Ogbeni Aregbesola, a legendary black nationalist philosopher, urged the provision of support and improved welfare for educators to address the scarcity of competent professionals in the teaching profession.

“The chosen theme for this year’s celebration draws attention to the global shortage of teachers. We cannot allow this noble profession to wither away. We must perpetuate it by encouraging more individuals to join its ranks. The cradle of education must be nurtured continually; we cannot afford a shortage of skilled hands. I implore governments at all levels to prioritise the welfare of teachers and ensure that only those with the necessary competence serve in the sector. Teaching should be an esteemed vocation for the best and the most dedicated, not merely a temporary occupation for those seeking to fill their time.”

“If we aspire to a brighter future, we must equip our children, who will be the architects of that future, with the knowledge and skills they need. Investing in education and valuing our educators is an essential step towards achieving this goal.” Ogbeni Aregbesola submitted.
