Yuletide: Prof Adeolu Akande Congratulates Christians, Charges Faithful to Imbibe Good Virtues Associated With Christmas
The former Chairman of the Nigerian Communications Commission, NCC, Professor Adeolu Akande, has enjoined Nigerians to radiate love towards one another and demonstrate the virtue of giving, as exemplified by the birth of the Lord Jesus Christ.
Akande, who noted that the Christmas period is a unique one as it is always characterised by colour, music, festivity, and communal interactions, stressed the need for Nigerians to internalise the lessons and understand the significance of the period, which he identified as love, sacrifice, and giving as demonstrated by God through Jesus Christ for the salvation of mankind.
The varsity don, who is also a former Chief of Staff (CoS) to the late Governor Ajimobi, noted that “the season provides a unique opportunity for Nigerians to imbibe new attitudes in support of nation-building and further encouraged Nigerians to commit their energies towards the promotion of human dignity, development, tolerance, and mutual respect.”.
Professor Akande expressed hope that though the nation is currently passing through a significant phase in her national life, there is a need to sustain a sense of optimism, just as he called for the reawakening of national consciousness.
Prof. Akande, who currently lectures at the National Institute for Legislative and Democratic Studies (NIDLS), Maitama-Abuja, further encouraged Nigerians to place emphasis on issues that build up rather than ones that divide and cause disharmony.
Akande called for the sustenance of efforts from leaders at all levels so that Nigerians will experience better days in the coming years.
The notable philanthropist, however, challenged Nigerians to celebrate the season in the spirit of moderation and generosity to the underprivileged.
