2027: Stop attacks on Oyo APC candidates – Pacesetter Peace Team Tells APM’s Makinde, Adekanmbi
The Pacesetter Peace Team (PPT), led by Barrister Ademola Adeniji, has condemned reported attacks on Alhaja Tawakalitu Alli, wife of Oyo State APC governorship candidate Senator Sharafadeen Alli, and two APC candidates in Ibadan on Wednesday.
According to the group, Alli was assaulted during a medical outreach she organised at Ibikunle House in Ayeye. It also said campaign activities for Hon. Aderemi Oseni, the APC candidate for Oyo South Senatorial District, and Hon. Folake Olunloyo-Oshinowo, the party’s candidate for the Ibadan North-West/Ibadan South-West Federal Constituency, were disrupted at separate events near Agbaje Market in Orita-Merin and in Idi-Arere.
In a statement issued by the former publicity officer of the progressive party in the state and PPT’s Public Relations Officer (PRO), Hon. Dauda Kolawole, the movement described the incidents as unjustified and warned that political violence could return the state to a period of unrest.
The PPT alleged that thugs affiliated with the Allied People’s Movement (APM) were responsible for the attacks. It called on Governor Seyi Makinde and APM governorship candidate Hon. Bimbo Adekanmbi to rein in those involved.
The group said APC candidates and supporters would continue to exercise their rights to assemble, associate and campaign within the law, adding that threats would not stop the party from taking its message across Oyo State.
The statement also accused Makinde and Adekanmbi of allowing political tensions to escalate and urged the governor to protect residents regardless of their political affiliation. It called on security agencies to investigate the incidents, identify those responsible and bring them before the law.
The PPT further urged all parties to focus on policies and campaign issues rather than intimidation or violence. It said APC candidates would continue campaigning and called for a peaceful political environment ahead of the 2027 elections.
