Ibadan SE/NE 2027: Group Calls for Competence, ‘Not Sectional Zoning in APC’

The Progressive Youth of Ibadan South East/North East Federal Constituency wish to categorically distance ourselves from the recent narrative circulating in some quarters, particularly the claims suggesting any form of zoning arrangement such as “Ibadan North East Lokan” or “Ibadan South East Lokan” ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Speaking earlier today with newsmen, the Secretary of the group, Alhaji Sanusi Rilwan, on behalf of the Chairman, Alhaji Akinola Rasaq, firmly stated that such divisive narratives do not represent the collective interest of the progressive youth within the constituency.

We want to make it clear that there is nothing like “North East Lokan” or “South East Lokan” in our constituency. What the All Progressives Congress (APC) needs at this crucial time is a sellable, credible, and vibrant candidate ,a candidate who has the capacity, integrity, and vision to reposition Ibadan South East/North East Federal Constituency for sustainable growth and development.

Our focus remains on competence, not sentiment. The era of “who is next” based on sectional agitation should give way to who is best based on merit and proven ability. The people of our constituency deserve effective representation, not recycled leadership driven by entitlement or political bargaining.

We strongly caution groups and individuals promoting the slogan “Kinikan Lokan” to desist from actions capable of causing disunity within the party. Such campaigns, if not checked, may undermine the unity and electoral strength of our great party.

Furthermore, we dissociate ourselves from any group or individuals who may have compromised their integrity by collecting inducements from aspirants to push divisive agendas on public platforms. The Progressive Youth remain committed to transparency, fairness, and the overall progress of the party.

We reiterate that both Ibadan South East and Ibadan North East have equal rights to produce the party’s candidate. What matters most is presenting a candidate who is widely acceptable, reliable, and capable of winning the general election while delivering quality representation to the people.

Our stand is clear:
No zoning, no imposition, only competence, credibility, and capacity.

Signed,
Progressive Youth
Ibadan South East/North East Federal Constituency
