NANS AT 45: A Milestone Anniversary and Renewed Commitment to Student Advocacy | President Olushola Oladoja

A NOTE FROM PRESIDENT OLUSHOLA OLADOJA

NANS AT 45: A Milestone Anniversary and Renewed Commitment to Student Advocacy.

Forty-five years ago, a generation of bold Nigerian students came together with one conviction, that the student is not merely a passive beneficiary of governance, but an active participant in the destiny of a nation.

As we mark 45 years of the National Association of Nigerian Students, we do so with pride, with reflection, and with renewed purpose.

NANS has not always walked an easy road. We have faced suppression, internal strife, and the constant pressure to be silenced. Yet we endured. We have been the conscience of the Nigerian state, speaking when others kept quiet, marching when others sat down, and demanding accountability when the powerful preferred impunity.

At 45, we are not celebrating an institution alone, we are celebrating every Nigerian student who ever carried a placard for justice, every leader who sacrificed comfort for service, and every comrade who believed that education is a right, not a privilege.

The 45th anniversary activities featured the recognition of 45 Distinguished Nigerians who have made significant contributions to national development and youth empowerment. Honourees spanned State Governors, Government officials, heads of public tertiary institutions, education, private and the public sector.

Forty-five years after its reconstitution, NANS remains the loudest collective voice of Nigerian students. The anniversary served not only as a moment of institutional reflection but also as a platform for building strategic alliances with government and academia.

NANS has remained a strong advocate for Nigerian students, championing policies and initiatives that enhance academic progress and student welfare. As we enter the next chapter, the challenge, as always, is to balance partnership with power while staying rooted in student welfare and genuine advocacy.
