OYO: Makinde Must Account for over N200B in LG Funds Before Questioning BSA,“He Who Seeks Equity Must Come with Clean Hands” | By Elder David Oluokun

Governor Seyi Makinde is in the habit of throwing stones while hiding in a glass house.

The latest is his attempt to demand an account of Senator Sharafadeen Abiodun Alli’s record as Ibadan North Chairman under the abortive Third Republic — over 30 years ago.

Before he digs up history, Governor Makinde must first render account of his own present.

ACCOUNT FOR THE 33 LOCAL GOVERNMENT CHAIRMEN:
Oyo State has 33 LGAs. Each has a Chairman under Governor Makinde’s administration

Question to the Governor: 
What are the tangible achievements of these 33 Chairmen in the last 6 years? 

Name one LGA where primary health centers were fully rehabilitated. 
Name one LGA where rural roads were graded and motorable. 
Name one LGA where markets were rebuilt without extortion.

The truth is simple: The LG system under Makinde is dead. Chairmen are glorified errand boys in Agodi. They collect allocation but cannot execute projects. That is not democracy at the grassroots.

•WHERE IS THE OVER N200 BILLION LG MONEY?
This is the big one.

In the past 12 months alone, over N200 Billion Naira has accrued to Oyo State Local Governments from FAAC. 

That is money meant for boreholes, classrooms, primary healthcare, and feeder roads in villages across the 33 LGA’s.

So we ask Governor Makinde: 
How has the N200Billion been utilised?
Show us the breakdown. Show us the projects. Show us the vouchers.

Because on the ground, there is nothing to show. 
Our LGs are still dirty. Our schools are still leaking. Our PHC’s have no drugs, security is down to zero. If the money came and the people did not feel it, then where did it go?

•THE HYPOCRISY OF DIGGING UP THE PAST:
Senator BSA served as Ibadan North Chairman in the Third Republic. That was decades ago, and he served  meritoriously and move on. 

But Makinde is sitting on over N200Billion of today’s money with zero accountability. 
He is holding LG funds by the jugular through the Joint Account, yet he wants to audit a chairman from 1993.

That is not leadership. That is distraction.

•HE WHO SEEKS EQUITY MUST COME WITH CLEAN HANDS:
There is a Yoruba adage: “Eni to nwa ododo, ki o ma ba ni owo egbo.”
He who seeks equity must himself come with clean hands.

Governor Makinde cannot be judge and jury. He cannot preach transparency while running the most centralised LG system in Nigeria. 
He cannot talk about accountability from 1993 when he cannot account for 2024/2025.

•RENDER YOUR ACCOUNT FIRST
Oyo people are watching.
Before Governor Makinde asks Senator Sharafadeen Alli about Ibadan North in the Third Republic, he should answer these 3 questions:

1.  What did the 33 LG Chairmen achieve under you?
2.  How was the over  ₦200Billion LG allocation in the last 12 months spent?
3.  When will LG autonomy be real in Oyo State?

Until then, the demand is dead on arrival. It is politics, not principle.

Oyo people deserve answers, not rhetoric.
