Oyo North 2027: Group rejects ‘purported press conference’ allegedly held against Ogunesan, says ex-HoS’ leadership capacity, electoral acceptability remain intact

Tunde Adeyemo,
Ibadan, Oyo State.
The Oke-Ogun Progressives Youth Alliance (OPYA) has strongly condemned what it described as a purported press conference allegedly hosted by an unknown and unrecognised group operating under the name “New Age Transformative Leadership for Good Governance.
In a statement released on July 4, 2026, the youth alliance said the group’s claims against Mrs Hannah Olawumi Ogunesan, MFR, the standardbearer of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oyo North come 2027 are false, baseless, and intended to mislead the public, warning that such actions could heighten tensions within the Oyo North Senatorial District.

OPYA said the so-called group has no credibility and no known standing within the political structure of the party or the Oyo North political space.

The alliance further alleged that the campaign behind the purported press event is the work of disgruntled political elements who, it said, failed in their attempt to reverse the outcome of APC primary election, which it described as free, fair, transparent, and credible, resulting in Mrs. Ogunesan emerging as the party’s candidate.
OPYA stated that having lost through lawful democratic processes, the group has resorted to what it called propaganda, disinformation, and character assassination, adding that Mrs. Ogunesan’s leadership capacity and electoral acceptability remain intact.
The youth alliance expressed confidence in Mrs. Ogunesan’s candidacy, insisting that her focus on public service and grassroots development remains unquestionable.
In the statement, OPYA warned those behind the campaign to desist immediately from actions capable of causing disunity, political unrest, or chaos in Oyo North, emphasising that democracy thrives on healthy competition, not falsehoods or inflammatory propaganda.
The group urged the public and party supporters to disregard the claims made by the faceless group and stay focused on achieving victory for the APC in the forthcoming elections.
OPYA said it will continue to defend truth, promote peace, and support democratic values, calling on all political actors to conduct themselves with decency and respect for the outcomes of democratic processes.
