VIDEO: Power Minister, Engr Tegbe Says Electricity Must Be Foundation for Growth As FG Commissions Transformer Projects, Upgrades Apapa, Other LGA’s Substations with SCADA, Automation
Last week, the Federal Government of Nigeria commissioned transformer projects across four Lagos transmission substations Apapa, Ijora, Alausa, and Lekki to expand the state’s electricity grid by a total of 840 MVA of new capacity. The upgrades include modern automation and SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) systems designed to improve operational efficiency and reliability.

Explaining the strategy behind the intervention, the Minister of Power, Engr. Joseph Olasunkanmi Tegbe described the intervention as a targeted approach to identify the bottleneck, invest in it, remove the constraint, and unlock the additional capacity for the grid. He emphasised that Lagos, one of Nigeria’s fastest-growing economic corridors, requires electricity infrastructure to serve as a foundation for business growth, industrial production, and community development.
The minister expressed gratitude to TCN (Transmission Company of Nigeria), JICA, the World Bank, the Lagos State Government, and the engineers who contributed to the successful delivery of the projects.
