Stakeholders and former leaders of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) have congratulated Comrade Akinteye Babatunde Afeez, popularly known as Babtee, on his election as President of the association for the 2026 administrative session.

The congratulatory message was contained in a statement signed by the Convener of the NANS Stakeholders Forum, Comrade Olufemi Osabinu, on behalf of former presidents, former senate presidents, former vice presidents, former former zonal Coordinators, Joint Campus Committee (JCC) leaders and other stakeholders of the student body.

According to the statement, Babtee secured 349 votes out of 372 accredited voters during the election.

The stakeholders described the outcome as a reflection of the confidence reposed in him by delegates and Nigerian students.

“We heartily congratulate Comrade Akinteye Babatunde Afeez, popularly known as Babtee, on his resounding victory and emergence as the duly elected President of NANS for the 2026 administrative session,” the statement said.

The forum noted that it had endorsed Babtee before the convention, citing his experience within the student movement and previous leadership roles in the association.

“Before the convention, we took a principled stand to endorse Babtee based on our firm conviction that he possessed the leadership capacity, administrative experience, courage, ideological depth and organisational understanding required to reposition NANS and provide purposeful leadership for Nigerian students,” the statement added.

The stakeholders expressed confidence in the newly elected president’s ability to lead the association and address issues affecting students across the country.

They also urged him to remain committed to the ideals of NANS, promote unity within the organisation and protect the interests of Nigerian students.

“As stakeholders and former leaders who stood by this project from the beginning, we are confident that Babtee will justify the confidence reposed in him by Nigerian students,” the statement said.

The forum further called on members of the association to support the new leadership in advancing the objectives of NANS and strengthening its role in advocating for students’ welfare and educational development.
