From Hope to Renewed Hope: Our Chequered Journey to Nation Building | Hon Bimbo Kolade
Today, as we join millions of Nigerians in celebrating Democracy Day, we pause to reflect on our nation’s long and eventful journey from the aspirations of hope to the promise of renewed hope.
Democracy in Nigeria has never been a smooth sail. It has been a journey marked by sacrifices, struggles, disappointments, triumphs, and resilience. Many patriotic Nigerians paid the ultimate price to secure the democratic freedoms we enjoy today. Their courage and commitment laid the foundation upon which our democratic institutions continue to stand.
Our path to nation building has indeed been chequered. We have witnessed periods of political uncertainty, economic challenges, security concerns, and social divisions. Yet, through every storm, the Nigerian spirit has remained unbroken. Our people have continued to demonstrate remarkable faith in the unity, progress, and greatness of our nation.
Today, the Renewed Hope agenda presents another opportunity for collective national rebirth. It calls on all Nigerians, irrespective of ethnicity, religion, political affiliation, or social status, to work together in building a stronger, more prosperous, and more inclusive nation. Nation building is not the responsibility of government alone; it is a shared duty that requires the active participation of every citizen.
As we commemorate Democracy Day, let us recommit ourselves to the ideals of justice, accountability, good governance, patriotism, and national unity. Let us support initiatives that promote economic growth, youth empowerment, quality education, security, and social development. Above all, let us continue to believe in Nigeria and in our collective ability to overcome challenges and achieve greatness.
The story of Nigeria is still being written. While our journey has not been without setbacks, our destination remains a nation where every citizen can live in peace, dignity, and prosperity.
Together, we can transform hope into renewed hope and renewed hope into lasting national progress.
