Makinde: “Anti-Godfather” or Betrayer? The Record Says Otherwise—He Abandoned Those Who Put Him in Power, Now He Has Handpicked His Successor | By Elder David Oluokun

Governor Seyi Makinde is at it again. While addressing supporters, he claimed: I will not be a godfather to my successor, handpicked stooge candidate Bimbo Adekanmbi.

But Oyo people are asking: Can the leopard change its spots?

The Godfather Who Denies Being One
For over 7 years.

Makinde has run Oyo State like a personal estate.

33 LG Chairmen: Handpicked, controlled, and silenced, no autonomy, no power, just allocation collectors.

Commissioners & Appointees: Loyalists only. Dissenters are shown the door.

Party Structure: APM in Oyo is Makinde APM. If you are not with him, you are against him.

Now he has anointed Bimbo Adekanmbi as his successor and still tell us he is “not a godfather.” 

That is the definition of godfatherism.

A HISTORY OF BETRAYAL:

The irony is bitter. Makinde got to power on the back of leaders and stakeholders he has since abandoned.

Who helped him in 2019? 

Traditional rulers, party elders, political leaders across zones who risked everything to chase out APC. 

What happened after?
Most were pushed aside. Promises were broken. Structures were dismantled.

From 2019 to 2026, the story was the same: Use them to get power, dump them after.

That is not leadership. That is ruthless godfatherism

THE ADEKANMBI PROJECT = OMIKOMI 3.0 Let’s call it what it is.

Bimbo Adekanmbi is not running on his own record. He is running as Makinde’s extension. 
Makinde wants “Omikomi 3.0”  a 3rd term by proxy.

Same policies, same ₦1 Trillion LG Funds  questions, same centralisation. 
Oyo people will reject Omikomi 3.0 .

OYO PEOPLE DESERVE BETTER
A real leader builds institutions, not stooges. 

A real leader empowers people, not anoints successors. 
A real leader keeps promises to those who helped him.

Makinde has failed on all 3.

WE SEE YOU
You cannot say “I am not a godfather” while handpicking your successor. 

You cannot preach democracy while running a one-man show. 

You cannot betray your benefactors and expect Oyo people to trust your anointed.

Oyo State is not a family business. 
In 2027, the people will decide — not Makinde, not Adekanmbi.
