PHOTOS: Senator Akintunde Visits IGP, Secures Police Mobile Squadron Deployment, Proposed Police Training Institution for Oyo
Last Tuesday, Senator Yunus Abiodun Akintunde, Ph.D., the senator representing Oyo Central Senatorial District in the National Assembly, led the Oyo Forum delegation on a courtesy visit to the Inspector General of Police (IGP), where the delegation presented two key requests aimed at improving security architecture and police infrastructure in Oyo town and its surrounding areas.
The requests included the establishment of the already-approved Police Mobile Squadron in Oyo and the creation of a Police Training Institution in the town.
Senator Akintunde said he was pleased with the IGP’s positive response.’The IGP directed the Assistant Inspector General (AIG) in charge of the Mobile Police to deploy a unit of the Police Mobile Squadron to Oyo this month, contingent on the host community providing temporary accommodation.
On the proposed Police Training Institution, Akintunde hinted that the IGP directed the Police Secretary to recommend a suitable institution for establishment in Oyo.
According to the senator, the developments mark meaningful progress toward strengthening policing capacity and expanding critical security infrastructure across Oyo Central.
Akintunde added that, as a representative in the Senate, he remains committed to constructive engagement with relevant authorities to advance initiatives that promote safety, security, economic growth, and overall development for the people of the district.
Senator Akintunde emphasised that residents deserve to be safe and that communities require adequate security infrastructure, adding that he would continue working to make those aspirations a reality.
